From the street, the shops are demarcated as a different space with steps up or down. Somewhat a ‘sacred’ space - must take shoes off before entering.

Intrigued by the sight of some shopkeepers using the items of their store/trade to create impromptu seats and steps, propping themselves up at the front of the store. As an advertisement of their merchant identity, some shopkeepers recognise the need to ‘force’ chance interactions with those passing by in order to facilitate their business, and hence their own livelihood.
